Jurgen Klopp heaps praise on Liverpool midfielder Roberto Firmino
Jurgen Klopp says he is very happy with Roberto Firmino’s recent performances for Liverpool.
The Brazil international scored twice in the Reds’s thrilling 5-4 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road in Saturday’s early kick-off in the Premier League.
I’m really happy Roberto is in the shape he is
Firmino has scored five goals and has made three assists in 20 Premier League games in his first season in England after he moved to Liverpool in a £29m deal from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the summer.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Stoke City in the League Cup semi-final at Anfield on Tuesday, Klopp heaped praise on Firmino.
“After Man United, everyone asked why we didn’t play with a striker,” Klopp said.
“For me, I’m really happy Roberto is in the shape he is. He’s obviously in a good moment and that’s good for us.
“The most important thing in all was the different names on the scoreboard. Goals from midfield were important.
“We need to have different names on the scoreboard. We have enough bodies in the box, good timing, good passing.”
Liverpool are in seventh place in the Premier League table and seven points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the race to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
The Reds make the trip to Leicester in their next Premier League game at King Power Stadium on Tuesday 2 February.
