Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update after Newcastle victory
Alexis Sanchez could be in line to return to action for Arsenal next week, Arsene Wenger reveals
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez could finally make his return to the Arsenal side for next week’s FA Cup clash with Sunderland.
The Chile international has been out of action since late November after suffering a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Norwich City.
Sanchez has missed the last six Premier League games due to the problem but is now closing in on a return to action following a brief trip back to his native homeland during his recovery.
Now, the Arsenal manager has confirmed that the talismanic forward could be set to make a return to the Gunners squad for the FA Cup third-round clash against the Black Cats on Saturday.
Speaking at his post-match news conference after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday, Wenger said: “It’s a possibility [he could play against Sunderland].
“Alexis Sanchez needs a good test over the next four days and afterwards we will make a decision.”
Sanchez has been a key figure for Arsenal so far this season, scoring six goals and making one assist in 14 Premier League outings for the Gunners.
Saturday’s win over the Magpies in north London moved Arsenal two points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
