Louis van Gaal delivers the latest Manchester United team news ahead of Sunday's trip to Liverpool
Michael Carrick has been ruled out of Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool due to injury, Louis van Gaal has confirmed.
The Manchester United manager delivered the latest team news on Friday afternoon as his side gear up for Sunday’s trip to Anfield and revealed that the England international is currently sidelined with an undisclosed injury.
Van Gaal also revealed that Phil Jones remains out of action, while midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is a serious doubt for the trip to Merseyside this weekend.
Speaking to MUTV on Friday afternoon, Van Gaal said: “I think we have the same injuries as before, maybe Schweinsteiger is coming back but that is not sure. It is very tight to regain [full fitness] I think, he needs more time I think. Carrick, he is also injured, we have forgotten to mention it but he was injured. He is still injured so he cannot play either.”
United are also without long-term absentees Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia for this weekend’s clash against their bitter local rivals.
