Latest Liverpool injury update: Jurgen Klopp on Daniel Sturridge
Jurgen Klopp lifts the lid on Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge's continued injury problems
Jurgen Klopp has lifted the lid on Daniel Sturridge’s ongoing injury problems ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Exeter City on Wednesday night.
The England striker hasn’t featured for the Merseyside outfit since a 2-0 defeat by Newcastle United in the Premier League at St James’s Park in early December.
He has not had any team training since Newcastle and that is not a situation where we can think about him
Sturridge was thought to be on the brink of a return to competitive action over the festive period after the 26-year-old was photographed at Melwood training ground.
However, Klopp revealed that Sturridge hasn’t taken part in any team training sessions since before their 2-0 loss to Newcastle over six weeks ago.
“Absolutely no chance for Daniel,” Klopp told his media conference ahead of Wednesday night’s game against Exeter City.
“He had, again, a break in his training sessions because of some issues and he is now back on the pitch and training but always in a good way [then] losing time.
“He has not had any team training since Newcastle and that is not a situation where we can think about him.”
Sturridge has scored 44 times in 77 games in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit during three-and-a-half years at Anfield.
The former Manchester City striker joined Liverpool in a £12m deal from Chelsea in the January transfer window in 2013.
The Reds have only scored eight goals in their last eight games in all competitions.
