Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update after Swansea win
Louis van Gaal delivers the latest Manchester United injury update, including news on Phil Jones and Ashley Young
Louis van Gaal has revealed that Phil Jones was forced off during Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Swansea City on Saturday due to a recurrence of an ankle injury.
The England defender has already spent some time on the sidelines this season, with the 23-year-old having been limited to just six Premier League starts for the Red Devils so far this term.
Jones was brought off at half-time during Saturday’s game, as goals from Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney ensured that the Red Devils kicked off 2016 with a win.
And speaking at his post-match news conference after the Premier League win, Van Gaal revealed that Jones had picked up the same injury.
Van Gaal said: “Phil Jones is injured, and it’s more or less the same injury as before.”
The Manchester United boss also revealed that Ashley Young was substituted during the game because he was suffering from cramp.
He continued: “Ashley Young has played a lot of matches in a row, so he was stiff and had to be changed. It was not voluntary, I changed them because I need to change.”
Van Gaal also allayed fears that Ander Herrera had suffered an injury after he was substituted late on.
“With Herrera, it was because I wanted to waste time, as Swansea did all match,” he added.
