Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Sheffield Utd test
Louis van Gaal delivers the latest Manchester United injury update, including news on the likes of Phil Jones and Ashley Young
Phil Jones has been ruled out of Manchester United’s FA Cup clash with Sheffield United on Saturday, Louis van Gaal has confirmed as he delivered the latest injury update ahead of the game.
Jones was substituted at half-time during last weekend’s 2-1 win over Swansea City at Old Trafford and will miss the third-round tie on Saturday evening.
However, there was some positive injury news for Manchester United on Friday, as Van Gaal confirmed that Jesse Lingard is available for selection once again.
Ashley Young is also back in training after picking up a knock against Swansea City.
Speaking to MUTV on Friday ahead of Saturday’s clash at Old Trafford, Van Gaal said: “Of course, we have the long-term injuries. Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo. But Jones is also injured. Then we have to wait and see because I have a lot of players who are in the ‘red zone’ [in terms of fitness], overloaded, and that I decide later.
“Lingard is coming back from injury. He has trained a full week so he is ready. Young is not injured but he is overloaded and in the ‘red zone’. More players are in the ‘red zone’ and we have to decide if they can play against Sheffield United or not.”
Adnan Januzaj is unlikely to feature for United this weekend after returning to the club from his loan spell with Borussia Dortmund early.
United’s win over Swansea in the Premier League last weekend was their first victory in eight attempts in all competitions.
