Latest Man United injury update: Schweinsteiger, Jones and more
Louis van Gaal confirms Manchester United duo will miss Southampton clash
Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Manchester United duo Phil Jones and Bastian Schweinsteiger won’t face Southampton.
The Germany international didn’t feature in United’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool on Merseyside last weekend due to injury.
Jones was spotted in the stands at Anfield along with his team-mates Michael Carrick and Marcos Rojo as Wayne Rooney netted a second-half winner for the visitors.
Speaking to MUTV ahead of Saturday’s game against the Saints, Van Gaal confirmed the World Cup winner and England defender would play no part at Old Trafford.
“It’s unbelievable, but we’re not lucky with that. Jones and Schweinsteiger cannot come back this weekend. You can count it and we have seven injuries,” Van Gaal said.
Schweinsteiger move to United in a reported £6.7m deal from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
The German midfielder scored his only United goal in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City last year.
