Liverpool defender talks up summer transfer to Real Madrid
Kolo Toure discusses his future at Liverpool beyond the summer, jokingly suggesting Real Madrid could sign the defender
Kolo Toure has jokingly talked up a move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The Ivory Coast international, who moved to Anfield in 2013, made a rare start for Liverpool in their 1-0 victory over Stoke City in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash at The Britannia on Tuesday.
I’d like to stay in the Premier League.
The 34-year-old battled through injury to help Liverpool keep a clean sheet at the Potters despite Lucas Leiva being asked to fill in as a makeshift centre-half following Dejan Lovren’s hamstring setback.
And Toure, who is a three-time Premier League winner with Arsenal and Manchester City, is clearly confident that he can get a good offer if Liverpool don’t renew his contract which expires next summer.
“If I can play like that then maybe I will go to Real Madrid,” Toure is quoted as saying by Goal.com.
“I don’t know what I’ll do at the end of this season, but I’d like to stay in the Premier League.
“My kids are here and it is difficult to move. I am loving every day but God knows where I will be in a year’s time.
“But I hope it’s playing football because I love it.”
Liverpool presumably won’t consider allowing Toure to leave the Merseyside club in the January transfer window following injuries to centre-halves Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel.
The Reds make the trip to Exeter City in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday night.
