Man United transfers: Roberto Martinez provides John Stones update

Roberto Martinez discusses the future of Manchester United target John Stones and his other Everton stars

Roberto Martinez says he is relaxed about the future of Manchester United target John Stones and his other Everton stars.

The England international impressed in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Stones was the subject of a bid from defending Premier League champions Chelsea in the summer transfer window as axed manager Jose Mourinho lined up the Everton starlet as a long-term replacement for John Terry.

However, the Toffees resisted the defending Premier League champions’s advances, but the Red Devils are thought to be rivalling Chelsea for Stones after their recent poor form.

Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of the visit of Manchester City in the League Cup semi-final on Wednesday night, Martinez discussed the prospect of losing his best Everton players this summer.

“We need to be very much aware of the special side that we have. We shouldn’t be worried about losing players. If we lose any of the squad, it will be for footballing reasons,” Martinez said.

“Our fans are sharing the same frustrations that we share. We need to be patient – we can’t click our fingers and expect to become a good team, become attractive to watch.”
