Man United’s Juan Mata reveals surprise love for this British food
We didn't see this one coming...
Juan Mata has revealed his love for British food – and especially meat pies.
The Spanish playmaker has been getting used to life in the north of England following his big-money transfer to Manchester United from Chelsea in January 2014.
And the 27-year-old admits that he is a big fan of beef pies.
Speaking to United’s website, Mata said: “On a day like this one, which is grey, rainy and cold, it’s nice to have a pie like a meat pie or beef pie, whatever you call it.
“If you go to an English restaurant in somewhere like Wilmslow or Knutsford, there are some nice places there and you can have a nice beef pie. I like them.”
Mata played 45 minutes as United slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat by Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon to leave Louis van Gaal’s men five points adrift of the top four.
The Spaniard will be hoping to feature when the Red Devils travel to Derby County in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday night.
Mata has scored four goals and made three assists in 23 Premier League appearances for United so far this season. He also featured five times in the Champions League group stage, scoring one goal and making two assists.
