Mark Lawrenson says he is backing Liverpool to beat Stoke City over two legs and reach February’s League Cup final.
The Reds make the trip to the Britannia Stadium on Tuesday night in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final.
I would back Liverpool over two legs and especially as the second leg is at home as well
Liverpool have a miserable record on the road in recent weeks after three losses in their last four away games in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a resounding 2-0 defeat by Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United side at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lawrenson backed his former employers to reach their first League Cup final since 2012 ahead of their first leg at Stoke.
“It’s over two legs – that’s the most important thing,” Lawrenson said.
“I would back Liverpool over two legs and especially as the second leg is at home as well.
“Stoke are a different team now. While they were very good at stopping you in the past, but they are also improved at the other end of the side.”
Klopp’s Liverpool side are in eighth place in the Premier League table and 12 points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Mark Hughes’s Stoke side are a point behind Liverpool after a 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion.
Liverpool were 1-0 winners at Stoke in the Premier League earlier this season.
