Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Man United v Southampton
Mark Lawrenson is expecting a 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Liverpool at Anfield
Mark Lawrenson is expecting Manchester United to be frustrated and held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a satisfying 1-0 victory over local rivals Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.
That result lifted Louis van Gaal’s men up to fifth place in the table and just two points behind Tottenham in fifth.
However, the former Liverpool man is tipping United to be frustrated in front of their home fans once again when the Saints travel to Old Trafford on Saturday.
Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “Manchester United’s win over Liverpool was an outstanding result because they were very much second best at Anfield.
“Southampton tend to go on runs of good or bad results. They have won their past two games and because they have perked up a little bit I fancy them to get something at Old Trafford.”
United have only won three of their last 10 Premier League games this season.
Van Gaal has been tasked with steering the club back into the Champions League after they were eliminated at the group stage last month.
United finished fourth in the Dutchman’s first campaign in charge at the club last season.
