Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Man United v Swansea
Mark Lawrenson is expecting to see Manchester United kick off 2016 with a win against Swansea City
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Manchester United to kick off 2016 with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Swansea City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils’ struggles this season have been well-documented, with Louis van Gaal finding himself under intense pressure in recent weeks following a run of eight games in all competitions without a win.
United’s poor form has caused them to drop out of the top four and the Red Devils head into Saturday’s home clash with Swansea in sixth place in the Premier League table.
However, United did produce an improved display as they played out a goalless draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday night.
And former Liverpool man Lawrenson is tipping United to beat the Swans at Old Trafford and kick off 2016 with a win.
Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “It may have been an eighth successive game without a win for Manchester United, but their performance at least was much better in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea.
“That is a big part of what the Manchester United fans want. Sure, they want a crack at winning the Premier League and challenging in the Champions League, but just as much they need to see that attitude, style and determination to take the game to the opposition.
“The pressure on manager Louis van Gaal is not about an expectation of winning 4-0 each week, it is about how the team are playing.
With that performance against Chelsea under their belts, even after Swansea’s recent improvement under caretaker Alan Curtis, I think they will make a return to winning ways.”
United, who finished fourth last season, were dumped out of the Champions League at the group stage in December.
