Mark Lawrenson predicts what Liverpool will do in the January transfer window
Mark Lawrenson is not expecting Liverpool to be active in the January transfer window
Mark Lawrenson believes that Jurgen Klopp is not likely to bolster his Liverpool squad with many new players in the January transfer window.
The Reds headed into 2016 in seventh place in the Premier League table and level on points with rivals Manchester United after their 1-0 win at Sunderland on Wednesday night.
The Merseyside outfit have inevitably been linked with a host of players in recent weeks in the build-up to the mid-season window.
However, former Liverpool man Lawrenson believes that Klopp is more likely to make signings in the summer transfer window as he continues to assess his current squad at Anfield.
Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “I am not expecting Jurgen Klopp to do anything major in January.
“I don’t think he is actively looking for new signings as yet, I think he is more intent in giving everybody a go and seeing what he has got in his squad.”
Klopp, who was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield back in October, has been tasked with guiding Liverpool back into the Champions League after the Reds finished sixth last season.
Liverpool travel to Upton Park to face West Ham United in the first Premier League game of 2016 on Saturday.
