Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Liverpool v Arsenal
Mark Lawrenson is expecting to see Liverpool hold Arsenal to a draw at Anfield on Wednesday night
Mark Lawrenson is expecting to see Liverpool hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at Anfield in Wednesday night’s Premier League showdown.
The Gunners head to Merseyside looking to secure a win to underline their Premier League title credentials and keep their two-point lead at the top of the table.
Arsenal kicked off 2016 with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium before booking their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup by beating Sunderland 3-1 on Saturday.
Liverpool, meanwhile, were held to a 2-2 draw by Exeter City in the FA Cup following their disappointing 2-0 loss to West Ham United earlier in the month.
However, former Liverpool man Lawrenson feels that the Reds are capable of stopping Arsene Wenger’s men in front of their home fans and is tipping Wednesday’s game to end in a draw.
Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “I think Liverpool are better against teams who let them play a little bit, which is what Arsenal will do on Wednesday.
“I am going for another draw here, which will suit Arsenal. They just keep on rolling along, picking up points and that is all they need to do.
“Liverpool have got another big game on Sunday when Manchester United come to Anfield but winning them both is a big ask, just like a top-four finish is a long shot for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“When he had won a couple of games a month or so ago, some Reds fans starting saying they could win the title, not just make the top four – but I think we have seen from their results over the past few weeks that they are still a long way from both.”
