Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for West Ham v Liverpool
Mark Lawrenson is expecting to see West Ham United claim a 2-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime
Mark Lawrenson is tipping West Ham United to secure a 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Upton Park on Saturday lunchtime.
Jurgen Klopp’s men ended 2015 with back to back Premier League victories as they recorded a 1-0 win at Sunderland on Wednesday night.
The Merseyside outfit head to the capital on Saturday looking to kick off 2016 with a win as Klopp aims to steer his side towards a top-four finish in the second half of the season.
However, former Liverpool man Lawrenson reckons that the Reds could struggle against the east London outfit and is backing the home side to take the three points on Saturday.
Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “West Ham beat Southampton on Monday after five successive draws. The goals have dried up since the start for the season, but I think they have done really well just to keep their ducks in a row amid injuries to attackers Dmitri Payet and Diafra Sakho. .
“Liverpool look more of a threat away from home at the moment. They are creating so many chances on the road but Christian Benteke – who has scored the match winner in their last two games – is a dilemma for Jurgen Klopp. The Belgian is scoring goals, but I think Klopp would prefer someone more mobile for his system.
“While he is their main striker and putting the chances away though, what do you do?”
Klopp, who was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield back in October, has seen his side move up to seventh place in the Premier League table and level on 30 points with Manchester United in recent days as they look to mount a bid for Champions League qualification.
