Mark Lawrenson pinpoints what Tottenham need to do in the January transfer window

Mark Lawrenson explains why Tottenham must consider signing a striker in the January transfer window

Mark Lawrenson has urged Tottenham Hotspur to consider signing some cover for Harry Kane during the January transfer window.

Kane was one of the Premier League’s standout performers in 2015 and has already scored 11 goals for the north London side so far this season.

Tottenham head into 2016 in fourth place in the Premier League table and just four points behind leaders Arsenal as they look to continue their bid for Champions League qualification and a possible title challenge.

With the mid-season January transfer window now open, former Liverpool man Lawrenson wants to see Spurs bring in some cover for Kane.

Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “Spurs need to buy some cover for Harry Kane.

“Any loss of form or injury for him would hit them very hard because they are nowhere near the same team without him.”

Tottenham head to Goodison Park to take on Everton in their first Premier League game of 2016 on Sunday afternoon.

The Lilywhites have been one of the Premier League’s most consistent teams so far this season, with the north London side having only lost two games this term.
