Mauricio Pochettino delivers Tottenham transfer update on Andros Townsend
Mauricio Pochettino addresses the future of Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend amid talk of loan move
Mauricio Pochettino has addressed the future of Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.
The England international has been limited to making appearances for Tottenham’s Under-21 side for most of the season.
Townsend was demoted to the Under-21 set-up after a reported disagreement with Tottenham’s coaching staff earlier in the 2015/16 campaign.
Unsurprisingly, the England international has been linked with a loan move away from White Hart Lane amid interest Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup third-round replay against Leicester City on Wednesday night, Spurs manager Pochettino insisted Townsend does have a future at north London.
“It is true that Andros Townsend does not play much for us, but he is a player in our squad and he needs to wait,” Pochettino said.
“It would have to be the right opportunity for the club. Today it is all about rumours – there is nothing clear.”
Townsend, who has 10 England caps, hasn’t featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team since a 2-1 defeat by Anderlehct in the Europa League on 22 October.
Spurs are in fourth place in the Premier League table after Saturday’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Sunderland at White Hart Lane.
