Pat Nevin: Cesc Fabregas cruised battle with Arsenal star Mesut Ozil
Pat Nevin says Cesc Fabregas dominated Arsenal rival Mesut Ozil
Cesc Fabregas cruised his midfield battle with Mesut Ozil, according to Pat Nevin.
The Spain international produced one of his performances of the season against his former employers as Chelsea were 1-0 winners against 10-man Arsenal on Sunday evening.
Fabregas has been heavily criticised for a below-par season by the midfielder’s high standards following Chelsea’s dramatic slide down the Premier League table.
However, Nevin says the former Arsenal captain outshone his Gunners rival Ozil despite the Germany international’s stellar season so far for Arsene Wenger’s side.
“I was really looking forward to seeing Fabregas against Ozil – that’s a real battle,” Nevin told Newstalk.
“It absolutely wasn’t a battle. Fabregas cruised that one.
“He controlled large parts of the game. Ozil will say he was with them team with 10 men.”
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a return to form in recent weeks under Jose Mourinho’s successor Guus Hiddink.
Fabregas has scored one goal and has made three assists in 22 Premier League games so far this season.
Ozil, meanwhile, has scored three times and has made 16 assists in 22 Premier League outings.
The Chelsea midfielder could line up against Watford in their next Premier League game on Wednesday 3 February.
