Pat Nevin discusses Louis van Gaal’s Man United future
Pat Nevin runs the rule over reports Louis van Gaal's offers of resignation have been rejected by Man United
Pat Nevin says he is shocked that Manchester United turned down Louis van Gaal’s offer of resignation.
The Red Devils suffered a 1-0 loss to Ronald Koeman’s Southampton side at Old Trafford on Saturday despite the Saints losing their last four away games in the Premier League.
According to reports in the British media, Van Gaal offered to resign following their latest league defeat but the 20-time English champions stood by their under-fire manager.
But former Everton and Chelsea midfielder Nevin says Van Gaal’s negative vibes won’t have a positive impact on the United dressing room.
“He seems to have given up a little bit. You don’t need that near a dressing room,” Nevin said.
“You don’t need negative players near a dressing room. You certainly don’t need that feeling from the manager.”
The Red Devils are in fifth place and five points behind Tottenham Hotspur, who occupy the final Champions League spot.
United will host Stoke City in their next Premier League game at Old Trafford on Tuesday 2 February before making the trip to defending champions Chelsea on Sunday 7 February.
