Pat Nevin says he isn’t sure whether Roberto Firmino is the answer to Liverpool’s goal-scoring problems.

The Brazil international scored twice in the Reds’s thrilling 5-4 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road in Saturday’s early kick-off in the Premier League.

Firmino’s brace took his tally to five Premier League goals in 20 top-flight games after the South American playmaker moved to Liverpool in a £29m deal from Hoffenheim in the summer.

Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk, Nevin questioned whether Firmino would have sustained success up front for the 18-time English champions.

“If you look at Firmino in the 5-4, you think he is brilliant and he has everything,” Nevin said.

“He won’t get that amount space every week. He was pretty good against Manchester United. It is still really, really hard to gauge that one. He is a good player.

“What we’re comparing him with is Rush, Dalglish and Suarez. He isn’t that level. He is nowhere near that level yet. He is a good player.”

Nevin continued: “Oddly enough, when they moved into the No10 position, he was even better there. He is absolutely not the answer for sure, yet. He has had a few good games so far.”

Adam Lallana rescued a vital win for the Reds after Sebastien Bassong had made it 4-4 in the first minute of added time.

Earlier, Firmino made the first-half breakthrough with a close-range finish before Dieumerci Mbokani and Steven Naismith overturned the scoreline.

Wes Hoolahan appeared to put the game out of Liverpool’s reach from the penalty spot after Alberto Moreno fouled Naismith inside Simon Mignolet’s area.

However, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson scored 96 seconds later to equalise before James Milner edged the Reds into the lead with 15 minutes remaining.
