Paul Merson delivers blunt assessment of Man United’s season

Paul Merson has not been at all impressed by Manchester United's recent form

Paul Merson has labelled Manchester United’s season as an “absolute disaster” following their stuttering form in the Premier League.

The Red Devils headed into 2016 having failed to win a game in eight outings in all competitions and on the back of a goalless draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford last week.

Louis van Gaal has found himself under intense pressure in recent weeks following his side’s miserable run of form as they dropped out of the top four in the Premier League table.

And former Arsenal man Merson feels that a club of Manchester United’s stature has no excuses to fail to win any games for such a long time.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon before United’s clash with Swansea City, Merson said: “With the team they’ve got, the players they’ve got and the size of the club, they cannot and should not ever go eight games without winning a football match, I’m sorry.

“They should never go eight games without winning a match – they’ve got too much talent and too much money. That should never happen.

“For me, it’s been an absolute disaster so far [this season].”
