Paul Merson makes bold prediction about Chelsea’s season

Paul Merson feels Chelsea are on the verge of turning around their season...

Paul Merson believes that Chelsea are capable of proving their doubters wrong by claiming a top-four finish this season.

The Blues have been written off by many as contenders to finish in the Champions League places after a disastrous start to the campaign left the west London side languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table.

However, Chelsea have shown signs of improvement since Guus Hiddink’s appointment as Jose Mourinho’s successor at Stamford Bridge – and the Blues kicked off 2016 with a 3-0 win at Crystal Palace last weekend.

Chelsea are currently 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur heading into the final 18 games of the season.

But former Arsenal man Merson feels that it would be foolish to write the Blues off in the race for Champions League qualification.

Merson told Sky Sports News HQ: “I still think they are dark horses – I know they have got Arsenal away soon, but barring that I think they could reel off 10 wins on the trot.

“And if they do, they might get into the top four.”
