Paul Merson states his prediction for Arsenal v Burnley
Paul Merson is tipping Arsenal to secure a 3-1 win over Burnley in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday
Paul Merson is tipping Arsenal to cruise to a 3-1 victory over Burnley and reach the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday afternoon.
Arsene Wenger’s men head into the game looking to return to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend.
Arsenal will be keen to book their place in the fifth round of the competition as they look to win it for the third consecutive year.
And former Arsenal man Merson is expecting to see Wenger’s side progress to the next round with a comfortable victory on Saturday afternoon.
Merson told Sky Sports: “Burnley are on fire but Sean Dyche is in a catch-22 situation. Do you go to the Emirates and say ‘we are playing well and scoring loads of goals’ and then Arsenal hit top form and beat you by four or five? Something like that can knock all of the confidence out of a side.
“At the end of the season Burnley need to get promoted, so I think they might rest some players.
“This has been a good cup for Arsene Wenger, if it wasn’t for the FA Cup he wouldn’t still be here as manager.
“Two-nil down against Hull, ball cleared off the line, fans fuming; he would have been gone if they’d lost. So it’s been a good cup for him.”
Sunday’s loss to Chelsea left Arsenal in third place in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Leicester City.
The Gunners are looking to win their first top-flight title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season. Their next Premier League game is a home clash with Southampton on Tuesday night.
