Paul Merson predicts the outcome of Tottenham v Leicester
Paul Merson isn't sure whether Tottenham Hotspur can cope with Premier League title contender pressure
Paul Merson says he expects Tottenham Hotspur to beat Leicester City on Wednesday night but has questioned whether Spurs have the mental strength to win the title.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men host the Foxes for the second time in four days after a 2-2 draw in their FA Cup third-round clash at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham have to perform under pressure and if they win this game, then the pressure will increase
Tottenham are four points behind Claudio Ranieri’s impressive Leicester side in the Premier League table but Spurs are the top-flight’s form side after a four-game unbeaten run.
While Merson believes Tottenham will have too much for Leicester in north London on Wednesday night, the former Arsenal playmaker believes Spurs could struggle to cope with the increasing expectations at the club.
“I’m going to go for Tottenham,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Harry Kane was on the bench at the weekend and he will make a big difference. I fancy him to score. They can win the league, but I’d like to see them when the pressure is on.
“They have to perform under pressure and if they win this game, then the pressure will increase. I think Leicester have been a bit unlucky; they missed a penalty against Bournemouth when they had 10 men.
“They’re still right up there for a place in Europe but this is a hard game for them.”
Leicester have played out goalless stalemates in their last two games after failing to beat title rivals Manchester City and Bournemouth.
Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park brought to an end their three-game winning run.
