Paul Merson states his prediction for Crystal Palace v Chelsea

Paul Merson reckons Crystal Palace will earn a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Sunday

Paul Merson is tipping Crystal Palace to hold Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.

The Blues make the short trip across London to face Alan Pardew’s men after they were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United on Monday night.

Chelsea’s struggles this season have been well-documented, with the Blues currently languishing down in 14th place in the Premier League table and their title defence in tatters.

Guus Hiddink has been tasked with steering Chelsea out of trouble following Jose Mourinho’s sacking earlier this month.

However, former Arsenal man Merson feels that Palace are more than capable of getting a result against the Blues at Selhurst Park in what will be their first game of 2016.

Merson told Sky Sports: “For a team of Chelsea’s stature, the money, everything, how they can play a football match without a centre-forward like they did against Manchester United is mind-blowing.

“But this should be a good game. Palace are decent at home, but I think they have missed Yannick Bolasie. I don’t think they are a one-man team, but he does give them that balance, and without him in the team they have had two blanks.

“At the same time, they kept two clean sheets, which is positive. It’s a very hard place for Chelsea to go of course.”
