Pep Guardiola has confirmed his desire to manage in the Premier League next season after he leaves Bayern Munich in the summer.

Speculation about the Spaniard’s next club has gathered pace in recent weeks after he recently confirmed that he would be stepping down as manager of Bayern at the end of the current campaign.

Manchester City have been widely reported to have won the race for Guardiola’s signature, but the fact that he is yet to confirm where he will take over next season has kept the speculation linking him with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea alive over the past few weeks.

Guardiola, who has been nominated for the Fifa world coach of the year award after guiding Bayern to the Bundesliga title last season, has long been linked with a move to England.

And the former Barcelona boss has confirmed that his decision to step down at Bayern was purely motivated by his desire to take charge of a Premier League team.

“The reason I have not extended my contract is simple. I want to manage in the Premier League,” Guardiola is quoted as saying by Metro.

“I’ve very happy and grateful to Bayern for the trust they’ve shown me but I need a new challenge.

“When I have a new club, the club will communicate that. At the moment, I can’t say anything else because nothing is fixed.”
