Marcos Rojo takes to social media to congratulate Lionel Messi on winning his fifth Ballon d'Or award

Marcos Rojo has taken to social media to offer his congratulations to Lionel Messi after the Barcelona forward collected his fifth Ballon d’Or award on Monday night.

The Argentina international beat off competition from Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar to claim the prize for the first time since 2012 in Zurich.

Rojo has regularly played alongside Messi for his national team, and the Manchester United defender was quick to send a message to his compatriot on Monday night.

The Red Devils star shared the picture above on his personal Instagram account and wrote: “Leo – the congratulations are well deserved, you’re a phenomenon!!!”

Rojo is currently enduring a frustrating spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury suffered during training towards the end of last year.
