Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has only nice words to say about this Brazilian star
Steven Gerrard has revealed one of his favourite Liverpool team-mates.
The former Reds captain called time on his decorated Anfield career last summer after having etched his name into Liverpool history over the past 17 years.
Unsurprisingly, Gerrard continues to keep close tabs on his former employers and boyhood club, and he trained with Jurgen Klopp’s players over the festive period.
Lucas Leiva has become an important member of Klopp’s first-team in recent months, even filling in at centre-half given the Reds’s injury crisis at the back.
And Gerrard, who joined Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy last summer, sent a message to Lucas on the midfielder’s 29th birthday.
Gerrard wrote: “One of the best fellas you can share a dressing room with 👍 happy birthday mate 🎉. @leivalucas!”
Lucas moved to Liverpool from Gremio under former manager Rafael Benitez in 2007.
After a tough start to life at Anfield, the Brazil midfielder has become a firm fans’s favourite over the past six years or so.
The South American could line up against Arsenal in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
