Ray Wilkins pinpoints main change Guus Hiddink has made at Chelsea

Ray Wilkins feels that there is a more relaxed atmosphere at Chelsea following Guus Hiddink's appointment as interim boss

Ray Wilkins believes that Chelsea are benefitting from a more relaxed atmosphere since Guus Hiddink’s appointment as Jose Mourinho’s successor at Stamford Bridge.

The Dutchman has been placed in temporary charge of the Blues until the end of the season following Mourinho’s sacking back in December and watched his side kick off 2016 with an impressive 3-0 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

The west London side were much improved against Alan Pardew’s men as they made a positive start to the year after their disastrous run of form in the early stages of the season left their Premier League title defence in tatters.

And former Chelsea man Wilkins feels that Hiddink’s arrival has helped to ease some of the pressure on the Blues squad following the “intense” atmosphere from Mourinho’s reign in west London.

“I never worked with Jose Mourinho, but having had the pleasure of working with Guus, if the atmosphere was intense under Jose it will be completely the opposite with Guus,” Wilkins told Sky Sports News HQ.

“He will demand they train well and demand they play to a very high standard but the training will be of a very jovial fashion.

“I think you have seen him interviewed on numerous occasions and he’s made it quite clear he wants them to work extremely hard and if they don’t have the application then go and have a conversation with him and it will be a short conversation. Straight away, he wants them to work hard but it will be fun all the way with Guus.”
