Robbie Savage: This is Arsenal’s unsung hero this season
Robbie Savage has been impressed by Nacho Monreal's improvement at Arsenal in recent months
Robbie Savage believes that Nacho Monreal does not get the credit he deserves and claims that the full-back is Arsenal’s most-improved player of the year.
The Spanish defender has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team this season and played the full 90 minutes as the Gunners kicked off 2016 with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Left-back Monreal has notched up three assists in 24 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League so far for the north London side this season.
And BT Sport pundit Savage feels that Monreal has been a key player for Arsene Wenger’s men in recent months.
Savage told the Daily Mirror: “Most improved player of the year: Nacho Monreal.
“Arsenal lost Ashley Cole to Chelsea 10 years ago and you could argue they have never found a replacement as good as him but Monreal’s improvement at left-back this season has been striking.”
Saturday’s victory over the Magpies at Emirates Stadium moved Arsenal two points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners, who finished third last term, are looking to win their first top-flight title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
