Steve McManaman says Jurgen Klopp must keep Daniel Sturridge at Liverpool.

The England international has been linked with a move to West Ham United in the January transfer window as his injury problems show no sign of coming to an end at Anfield.

The Reds striker, who moved to Liverpool from Chelsea in 2013, hasn’t featured for the Merseyside outfit since a 2-0 defeat by Newcastle United at St James’ Park in early December.

But former Liverpool captain McManaman believes Sturridge still has a future at the Merseyside club despite his persistent injury problems.

McManaman told BT Sport: “Keep him of course. We just need him fit until the end of the season. We just need him.”

“He isn’t Klopp’s signing. His patience will wear out if he doesn’t play from now until the start of the season,” McManaman added.

Sturridge has missed most of the 2015/16 season through injury, and the England forward has only played 16 Premier League games over the past 18 months.

Sturridge moved to Liverpool in a £12m deal from defending Premier League champions Chelsea in January 2013.

The Reds were 5-4 winners against Norwich City in Saturday’s game at Carrow Road.
