Stuart Pearce believes that Chelsea are in need of defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window as Guus Hiddink looks to turn the west London club’s stuttering form around.
The Blues have inevitably been linked with a host of players in recent weeks following their poor start to the campaign.
Chelsea are currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table as they prepare for their trip to Arsenal in the top flight on Sunday afternoon.
And former Manchester City manager Pearce feels that the Blues could do with some more options at the back.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday morning, Pearce said: “It’s probably defensively that the club have been structured [around] in the last few years, which has got them league titles and one or two other trophies.
“You would say defensively they need shoring up a little bit.
“But sometimes a player drops in your lap – he’s out of contract in six months and the deal seems right and you think he would be one for the future for the club.”
Hiddink has been tasked with steering Chelsea out of trouble after he was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s successor at Stamford Bridge last month.
The west London club find themselves just four points above the relegation zone as they prepare for their trip to The Emirates.
