Stuart Pearce: What Ezequiel Lavezzi would bring to Chelsea
Stuart Pearce believes that Chelsea should make a move to sign Ezequiel Lavezzi from Paris Saint-Germain this summer
Stuart Pearce has backed Chelsea’s reported pursuit of Ezequiel Lavezzi as Guus Hiddink considers bolstering his squad during the January transfer window.
Widespread reports in the British media have claimed that the west London club are in talks with the Paris Saint-Germain striker about a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
Lavezzi, 30, is out of contract at the Ligue 1 club in the summer, which may tempt the French club into selling the Argentina international this month.
And Pearce feels that Lavezzi’s arrival at the west London club this month could give Chelsea’s squad a timely boost following their recent struggles in the Premier League.
Pearce said on Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday morning: “He [Lavezzi] obviously plays out wide and can play through the middle as well so would give them both alternatives there.
“I think with Chelsea what they might be doing is looking to freshen the dressing room up a little bit.
“If they go through the January window in the form their in at the moment without maybe bringing one or two faces in… just to give the place a lift, sometimes you have to do that as a manager.
“He is out of contract as well so I can’t see them spending too much on him financially either.”
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Arsenal, who are top of the table on goal difference, are looking for their first league win over the Blues since 2011.
