Thierry Henry reacts to Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea

Thierry Henry says Arsenal did not start the game well enough after their 1-0 loss to Chelsea at The Emirates

Thierry Henry admitted that Chelsea had the last laugh after they were 1-0 winners over 10-man Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal were reduced to 10 men in the 18th minute when Per Mertesacker brought down Diego Costa, who was through on goal.

Costa then gave the visitors the lead in the 23rd minute when he finished from close range.

Arsenal failed to gain a foothold in the game and were frustrated for long spells by the defending champions, who enjoyed 53 per cent of the possession.

And Henry admitted that Arsenal failed to start the game in the right manner before Mertesacker was given his marching orders.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Henry said: “There’s always an expectation when Arsenal play Chelsea… are they going to finally beat them?

“Again, it’s Diego Costa and Chelsea having the last laugh.

“It’s difficult to point to things after the sending off but they didn’t start the game well enough to be able to be on top of it.

“So are we going to talk about the same thing? Is it going to have a massive impact on the title? Yes, in a way. But on the other side, no one is really capitalising on taking advantage of mistakes from other teams.”

The defeat left Arsenal, who have not won the title since 2004, third in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Leicester City in the table.

The north London side’s next Premier League game is a home clash against Southampton on Tuesday 2 February.
