Tony Cascarino: This Chelsea striker is back to his best
Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino heaps praise on Diego Costa
Diego Costa is starting to show signs that he is back to his best for Chelsea, former Blues striker Tony Cascarino has claimed.
The Spain international produced an influential performance in the west London side’s first Premier League victory under Guus Hiddink after a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
Diego Costa was back to the player we all know he can be – he just hasn’t done it often enough
Costa teed up Oscar for the defending Premier League champions’s opener in south east London before the former Atletico Madrid forward completed an emphatic victory with a close-range finish in the second half.
Former Republic of Ireland international Cascarino believes Costa is showing encouraging signs of rediscovering his old form ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Scunthorpe in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
“A clean sheet and big victory away from home,” Cascarino told Sky Sports.
“We haven’t seen a performance of that manner from Chelsea for the best part of a year, in the second half especially.
“Diego Costa was back to the player we all know he can be – he just hasn’t done it often enough.”
Costa has scored six goals and has made two assists in 16 Premier League games for the west London side this season.
The Spanish striker netted 20 times in Chelsea’s title-winning season last term after he moved to the Blues in a £32m deal from Atletico in 2014.
