Parlour, Lineker and more: Twitter reacts as Liverpool lose 2-0 to West Ham
Gary Lineker is among the tweeters after Liverpool were beaten 2-0 by West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday
Liverpool kicked off 2016 with a Premier League defeat as they were beaten 2-0 by West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon.
Michail Antonio gave the home side the lead in the 10th minute when he beat Nathaniel Clyne to Enner Valencia’s cross.
Liverpool had won their last two Premier League games heading into the clash but went 2-0 down when former Reds striker Andy Carroll converted Mark Noble’s cross 10 minutes after half-time.
The result lifted West Ham up to fifth place in the Premier League table, while Liverpool – who were off the pace throughout – dropped down to eighth.
The game at Upton Park inevitably prompted a flurry of post-match updates on social media – and here is a selection of some of our favourite posts.
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour praises the Hammers for their performance:
Great result for the Hammers. Up to 5th place. #PremierLeague

England legend Gary Lineker gets poetic after the final whistle:
Doesn't look good for Jurgen Klopp, lots of errors have to stop, to ensure the German's not a flop, who follows Rodgers and gets the chop.

Stan Collymore assesses the result:
Klopp needs a significant clear out at #LFC . Didn’t get a huge new manager bounce, so some have to go! It won’t be JK!! @talkSPORT LIVE

And that just leaves Mick Quinn to have the final say:
Good Win for the Hammers and another chalk n cheese performance from @LFC Benteke,Firmino and Moreno not at the races
