Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Southampton clash
Louis van Gaal says Manchester United star Ashley Young will need to undergo operation
Louis van Gaal says Manchester United winger Ashley Young will be out for “a long time” ahead of Saturday’s clash against Southampton.
The England international was forced off injured during the Red Devils’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.
Italy international Matteo Darmian deputised for the experienced United player on Merseyside following his injury setback.
Speaking to MUTV on Friday ahead of the visit of Southampton tomorrow, Van Gaal revealed that Young will have to undergo groin surgery and won’t be available for selection for the foreseeable future.
“Ashley Young has a severe groin injury, it shall be operated on, so he’s for a long time gone,” Van Gaal told MUTV.
Young has been in impressive form for the Red Devils in recent weeks, despite playing in an orthodox left-back role.
The former Aston Villa and Watford star has made two assists in 16 Premier League games for United so far this season.
The 30-year-old England man won the Premier League title in 2013 after he moved to the Red Devils from Villa.
