Alexis Sanchez: Why I joined Arsenal from Barcelona

Alexis Sanches discusses his transfer to Arsenal from Barcelona in the summer of 2014

Alexis Sanchez says that he opted to leave Barcelona to join Arsenal in the summer of 2014 because he was in need of a new challenge.

The Chilean has developed into something of a talismanic figure at Emirates Stadium since his arrival at the north London club.

Sanchez is preparing to face his former club for the first time when Arsenal welcome Barcelona to Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night for the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.

The 27-year-old admits that the decision to leave Barcelona was not an easy one but is convinced that he made the right choice.

Sanchez is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “It wasn’t easy to leave Barcelona.

“I fulfilled a dream when I moved there – to play in Spain and for the champions – but very few players stay in the same club all their life. To leave is normal.

“I wanted a new project, a new experience. And with so many attacking players at Barca it was a good choice to go… it has been a positive move and I love it at Arsenal.”
