Andrei Kanchelskis believes that Anthony Martial’s future lies as a striker at Manchester United – and not as a winger.

The French forward has regularly been deployed out wide by Louis van Gaal this season following his arrival at the club from Monaco in the summer transfer window.

Martial has been one of the Red Devils’ standout performers this season, with the 20-year-old having already scored six goals and made three assists in the Premier League.

And former United wide man Kanchelskis feels that Martial is much better suited to playing as a striker rather than a winger.

Speaking exclusively to 888Sport.com, Kanchelskis said: “Martial is no out and out winger like Ryan Giggs was in his early days.

“His best position is attacking down the middle, that is where his future will be.”

Martial, who netted in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday night, will be hoping to feature when the Red Devils travel to Stamford Bridge to take on defending champions Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
