Andrei Kanchelskis has warned Jesse Lingard that he must become more consistent for Manchester United if he wants to make it at Old Trafford.

Lingard was named man of the match and scored United’s opening goal as the Red Devils secured an impressive 3-0 win over Stoke City in front of their home fans on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old has scored three goals in the Premier League so far this season but has been limited to just eight top-flight starts for the Red Devils.

And former Manchester United wide man Kanchelskis has told the Red Devils youngster that he must work on producing more consistent performances.

Speaking exclusively to 888Sport.com, Kanchelskis said: “I know he is a good player but not so consistent. He plays well one game, then the next his level drops, followed by a poor game.

“Great players maintain their level. You need to play at a certain level for Manchester United in every game like Dennis Irwin, season after season. Lingard must be consistent if he is to make it at Old Trafford.”

Lingard will be hoping to be involved when Manchester United travel to Chelsea for their crunch Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
