Avram Grant states his prediction for Arsenal v Barcelona

Avram Grant believes Arsenal are capable of beating Barcelona on Tuesday night

Avram Grant believes Arsenal can beat Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night.

The Gunners are looking to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2010 but the holders stand in the north London side’s way.

They need to play their game and try to attack them and use home advantage

Arsenal have only beaten the Catalan side once in nine meetings in Europe’s premier club competition ahead of Tuesday night’s clash at The Emirates.

Andrey Arshavin and Robin van Persie cancelled out David Villa’s opener to secure a 2-1 win before Barcelona were 3-1 winners in the second leg in 2011.

However, former Chelsea manager Grant, who guided the Blues to their first Champions League final in 2008, believes the Gunners can beat Luis Enrique’s all-conquering side if Arsenal stick to their own game plan.

“It is a game between two clubs where the managers and the visions of the clubs have a good message for football,” Grant told Sky Sports.

“It will be a very tough game.

“They have a great manager and they play great football. They need to play their game and try to attack them and use home advantage. They did it a few years ago.”

Arsenal are in third place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Leicester City.
