Arsenal signing delights in Danny Welbeck’s scoring return

Petr Cech reveals his delight at seeing Danny Welbeck make a scoring return to the Arsenal side

Petr Cech could not hide his delight after watching Danny Welbeck come off the bench to score Arsenal’s winner in the 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Sunday.

Welbeck had not featured for the north London club so far this season due to a knee injury but was on hand to glance home Mesut Ozil’s free-kick deep into stoppage time to earn the three points for Arsene Wenger’s men.

The former Manchester United striker had been struggling with a knee problem and was forced to undergo surgery back in September to fix the injury.

And Cech was thrilled to see Welbeck make a positive return to the first team on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Arsenal’s website after the game, Cech said: “It is a sweet reward for him. He has been working really hard and he had a setback and then he had to have the operation.

“He had to start all over again and we could see in the last couple of weeks he looked really sharp and confident in training.

“He had a game for the under-21s which helped him get into the game and I thought today was fantastic for him. He really deserved his goal.”

The result left Arsenal in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Leicester City heading into the final 12 games of the season.

Their next Premier League game is a trip to Manchester United on 28 February.
