Jamie Redknapp states his prediction for Arsenal v Barcelona
Jamie Redknapp is sure that Arsenal can secure a positive result against Barcelona on Tuesday night
Jamie Redknapp is confident that Arsenal have what it takes to secure a 1-1 draw with Barcelona in their crunch Champions League clash on Tuesday night.
The Gunners head into the game as the heavy underdogs against the Spanish champions as they bid to reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition for the first time since 2010.
Arsenal managed to secure a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the group stage at The Emirates back in October, and former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp feels that the north London side are capable of secure a positive result on Tuesday night.
Redknapp told the Daily Mail: “At the moment, nobody can seem to find a way to beat Barcelona.
“It is about beating that initial press when you have ball in your own half. If you do that, then you can beat Barca’s back four, but it’s easier said than done. Ask Gary Neville – he’ll tell you how difficult it is.
“Arsenal must be extremely brave on the ball because if you lose it in your own half, you can find it’s in the back of the net before you know it. My feeling is Wenger will go with Olivier Giroud for set pieces and height.
“Arsenal must make set pieces count – especially free-kicks in wide areas. But they will have to play the perfect game to get out of this one unscathed.”
Asked for his prediction, Redknapp replied: “1-1. Arsenal must stay in the game and ride their luck, but I do think they can nick a draw.”
Arsenal, who are third in the Premier League, head into the game on the back of their frustrating goalless draw with Hull City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners will have one eye on their crunch Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
