Ray Wilkins states his prediction for Arsenal v Barcelona
Ray Wilkins looks ahead to Arsenal's crunch Champions League clash with Barcelona on Tuesday night
Ray Wilkins admits that he cannot see Arsenal being able to beat Barcelona over two legs in the Champions League.
The north London side are preparing to welcome the Spanish champions to Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night in the first leg of their last-16 tie.
Barcelona are the heavy favourites to knock Arsenal out over two legs to reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
And former Chelsea coach Wilkins admits that he cannot see anything other than a Barcelona triumph in the tie.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Wilkins said: “This is a team [Barcelona] that is, for me, the best side I’ve seen in world football for a long, long time.
“The front three alone score over a hundred goals every season that they’ve played together.
“They’re just phenomenal. I think Sergio Busquets is the best holding midfield player on the planet. Andres Iniesta is still playing…
“They are a machine. It will be extremely tough for Arsenal on Tuesday to get anything from this game.
“I just can’t see Barcelona being beaten over two legs.”
Arsenal are bidding to reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition for the first time since 2010.
The Gunners were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Hull City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon at The Emirates.
Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League and two points behind leaders Leicester City.
