Arsene Wenger hits back at Paul Merson over Arsenal transfer comments
Arsene Wenger discusses Paul Merson's recent comments about Arsenal's transfer business
Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is not paying too much attention to Paul Merson’s recent criticism of his Arsenal transfer policy.
Merson recently criticised Wenger for failing to add to his attacking options at Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window.
Wenger opted not to bring in a new striker last month, despite his Arsenal side now having gone three Premier League games without finding the net.
The Gunners only brought in midfielder Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel as Wenger looks to guide Arsenal to their first Premier League title since the 2003-04 season.
However, Wenger insisted that he was not worried about any external opinions as he gears his side up for their trip to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
Asked directly about Merson’s comments, Wenger told a news conference on Friday morning: “You cannot on one side praise the quality of our strikers and on the other hand say it is a mistake that we have not bought any strikers.
“We have Sanchez, we have Walcott, we have Giroud, we have Welbeck and I can’t see any stronger striker being on the market in the January transfer window.”
Arsenal are currently fourth in the Premier League table and five points behind top spot heading into the final 14 games of the season.
