Michael Owen is backing Liverpool to take a step closer towards the last 16 of the Europa League by beating Augsburg on Thursday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men head into the European clash in Germany looking to build on their impressive 6-0 demolition of Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds have struggled to find consistent form this season in the wake of Klopp’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield back in October.

However, with Daniel Sturridge back available for selection following his latest spell on the sidelines, the Merseyside outfit will be in a confident mood heading into Thursday’s game.

Former Liverpool and England striker Owen feels that the Reds are likely to have too much for Augsburg on Thursday night and believe that the Premier League outfit will be boosted by the return of Sturridge.

Writing in his blog for Bet Victor, Owen said: “I am a big fan of Daniel Sturridge and it was great to see him back in the goals at Villa Park on Sunday.

“The German side have not exactly fired on all cylinders since they returned from their winter break and they might struggle to cope with the Reds, who play their last game before the Final of the Capital One Cup on Sunday week.”
