Bastian Schweinsteiger sends message to Man United starlet after 5-1 win
Bastian Schweinsteiger congratulates Marcus Rashford on a memorable Manchester United debut
Bastian Schweinsteiger has congratulated Marcus Rashford on a dream Manchester United debut after Thursday night’s 5-1 victory over FC Midtjylland.
The Danish champions silenced Old Trafford with an early goal when Pione Sisto darted past United’s makeshift defence to put visitors ahead inside 10 minutes.
However, Midtjylland defender Nikolay Bodurov deflected a Memphis Depay cross into his own goal shortly afterwards to level the scores before Juan Mata had a penalty saved.
However, Rashford proved United’s hero as he guided home a cross from first Mata and then Guillermo Varela to put United into a 3-1 lead.
Ander Herrera’s spot-kick and Memphis’s goal sealed their progress to the last-16 as the visitors were reduced to 10 men.
And Champions League winner Schweinsteiger, who missed the last-32 clash due to injury, sent a message to his Rashford and the rest of his United team-mates on Twitter.
