Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for PSG v Chelsea

Charlie Nicholas looks ahead to Chelsea's crunch Champions League clash with PSG on Tuesday night

Charlie Nicholas is expecting to see Chelsea play out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in their crunch Champions League clash on Tuesday night.

Chelsea are in Paris for the first leg of their last 16 clash and head into the game after an impressive 5-1 win over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday.

With the west London side currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, their best chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League may come through winning the competition this season.

And former Arsenal man Nicholas is expecting to see Chelsea take a positive score draw back to London ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

Nicholas told Sky Sports: “I think Chelsea are going to Paris at a good time. They’ve built up some momentum and they go there knowing they can win and you better believe they will be going out to win the Champions League as their main priority.

“John Terry’s absence is an obvious draw back and with Kurt Zouma out you wonder who will replace him. Branislav Ivanovic can slot in there but he’s having his worst season since he joined them.

“However, should they really be that scared of Zlatan Ibrahimovic? We always have this intrigue about him because he has never come to the Premier League but he’s a top player, not one of the greatest.

“PSG are rightly favourites to progress but I think the timing is right for Chelsea and they’ll get another draw at the Parc des Princes, maybe scoring from a set-piece, and then anything can happen back at Stamford Bridge.”

Chelsea are unbeaten in all competitions since Jose Mourinho’s sacking by the west London club back in December and Guus Hiddink’s subsequent appointment as interim boss until the end of the season.
