Chris Sutton tells Man United to sell 32 players this summer
Chris Sutton believes that a major overhaul is needed at Manchester United this summer...
Chris Sutton believes that only four Manchester United players are good enough to remain at the club beyond the summer.
The Red Devils have been struggling for form in the Premier League all season and slumped to a 2-1 loss to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday lunchtime.
That result left United with a serious uphill battle on their hands if they want to secure a top-four finish this season, with the Red Devils currently fifth and six points behind Manchester City in fourth.
And former Aston Villa and Blackburn striker Sutton says that only Anthony Martial, David De Gea, Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling should be kept at the club beyond the summer.
Louis van Gaal currently has a squad of 36 players and so that means Sutton believes that 32 of them should be shipped out over the summer.
Speaking to BBC Sport on Saturday after United’s loss to Sunderland, Sutton replied when asked who he would keep at the club: “Rooney, Martial – there’s two. David De Gea, Smalling.
When Trevor Sinclair suggested that Juan Mata should stay, Sutton replied: “I wouldn’t keep Mata.”
United host Arsenal in their next Premier League game on 28 February.
